Former police dog 'cries' after reuniting with handler she hasn't seen for years

A retired police dog broke down when she was reunited with her old handler.

Wangwang worked as a sniffer dog at security checkpoints in Xichuan County, Henan Province, central China.

The eight-year-old German Shepherd was adopted after she retired in June 2019 Daily Star reported.

The move meant that Wangwang and her handler were separated after years of working together.

Last month the policeman decided to pay his furry friend a surprise visit while he was patrolling a neighborhood near Wangwang's home.

A clip recently posted on the Xichuan Police's Douyin account – the Chinese version of TikTok – shows the policeman calling for Wangwang from outside their home.

The excited dog clearly recognizes who it is and hurries out of the front door into his arms.

While Wangwang rubs against the policeman's legs, he appears to be crying a little.

Viewers of the video had their hearts melted at the adorable pooch's emotional reunion.

One wrote: "The dog is fine. Dogs are really loyal companions, please treat them well!”

"You can see how much Wangwang misses her handler," commented a second. "You can understand when the dog greets you on the belly.”

Some spectators wondered why Wangwang was not allowed to stay with her handler, with whom she is so clearly connected.

Xichuan Police Department responded in the comments, "Police dogs are generally well fed at the training center, but our officers could not use their time playing or training with retired dogs.

"You will be better looked after in a suitable family than in the training center.”
