Shelter fat cat who always sits on hind legs for a heartbreaking reason
Bruno is a "chatty" 25-pound cat who likes to stand on his back feet like a round, furry little egg-shaped man when hungry. He's got a lot of specific preferences ("Yes, I know I am EXTRA" the animal shelter's post advertising him declares). He's got some extra toes. And he has captured the internet's heart, which is good, because he's looking for a new home.
Bruno is one of the adoptable pets on offer at Wright Way Rescue in Morton Grove, Ill. Here are some of his quirks:
His preference is to be petted while eating, and if you decline to do so, he will meow and afix you with a penetrating stare while he grudgingly eats anyway.
He likes to be petted on the top of his head, sides of his face, his neck and his spine, but absolutely not his belly (this seems understandable).
He loves to drink water, but will not drink the water if it's placed in the same room as his food.
Although his rotund physique is both striking and adorable (one might say he is a MEGACHONKER, in the parlance of those who make up words to describe animal body types online), he is on a diet to get him down to a healthier size, according to Wright Way Rescue.
Applications have been pouring in, with hundreds of inquiries about Bruno coming from around the world since the shelter posted about him on Wednesday, according to Wright Way.
"We are excited to say that we've chosen his adopter! We hope to have him go home in the next day or two! Here he is reviewing adopters,"says Andrick of the photo below.
Although Wright-Way reports that Bruno chose his new mama on Monday — a woman named Lauren Paris who declared her EXTRA, eternal love by serenading him on camera (“Gimme that fat cat!” she sings) — and goes home with her on Tuesday, the rescue has still arranged for a meet 'n greet with the celebricat and his community of local admirers.
According to CBS 2 Chicago , "Gimme That Fat Cat," was written by Paris's friend Kathleen Gibson. Much like Bruno himself, the lyrics (and vocal delivery!) are impressive:
Gi
"[Lauren] is loved by everyone at Wright-Way Rescue and we know she will make an amazing mom to Bruno," Andrick tells PEOPLE.
Bruno will stay in Chicago, and we hear his forever home is a beautiful apartment with amazing views of the city.
